Route history
Vehicle route history and trip playback
Pick a vehicle and a period, and Fleet Hero replays where it drove, with the distance, moving and idle time and speeds for that range. Trips are cut from the GPS data automatically, so a question such as 'where was the van at 14:20?' takes seconds to answer.
Every package includes route history: 6 months in Essentials, 12 in Professional and 24 in Business.
01How it works
Looking back, step by step
Replay
Play the route back, or jump to any moment
Choose a start and an end time and the route appears on the map, drawn from the positions the tracker recorded. Press play to follow the vehicle at 1×, 4× or 16× speed, or drag the progress bar to the moment you need.
- A speed-coloured path: green where the vehicle was slow, red where it was fast
- Or one colour of your choice, set in your map settings
- Opens from the live map with one click
Range overview
The numbers for the period you chose
Next to the map, the range overview adds up the period: the number of positions, the distance and duration, moving and idle time, average speed while moving and top speed. With a tracker that reports fuel, it also shows the litres used and l/100 km, and names where the figure came from.
- Fuel figures labelled measured, estimated or rough estimate
- The share of the period the fuel sensor covered
- Fuel is calculated for periods of up to 7 days
Trips
Trips, cut from the GPS data automatically
Every 15 minutes, Fleet Hero cuts the latest positions into trips. A trip starts when the vehicle moves or the ignition goes on, and ends when the ignition goes off; with trackers that do not report the ignition, it ends after five minutes standing still.
- Vehicle, driver, start, end, distance and duration for each trip
- Totals for all trips, trips completed today, trips in progress and the average distance
- Open a trip to play it back with a timeline and a speed multiplier
Private periods
Private periods stay private in the history
For people with the privacy permission, the replay marks a privacy pause with a dashed grey line between the last position before it and the first one after it, says plainly that nothing was recorded in between, and shows the distance measured during the pause apart from the recorded kilometres. Other people see the two recorded positions joined by a plain line, without being told why.
- Recorded and estimated kilometres are never added together
- An estimated road route across a finished private period is drawn only on request, by people with a separate permission, and covers European roads

What the history shows, and what it does not
The route joins the positions the tracker recorded with straight lines; it is not redrawn onto the road network, so a long gap between positions can cut a corner. Fuel used for a period needs a tracker that reports fuel and is calculated for up to 7 days at a time. The range overview needs the tracking history permission, which the built-in Dispatcher role does not include.
04Questions
Questions about route history

How far back can we replay a route?
Every package includes route history: 6 months in Essentials, 12 months in Professional and 24 months in Business. The replay opens on the last hour, and you can set any start and end time within that history.
Why does the path sometimes cut across a corner?
The route joins the recorded positions with straight lines and is not redrawn onto the roads. With longer intervals between positions, a bend can look like a shortcut; a shorter reporting interval gives a closer line.
How are trips created?
Automatically, every 15 minutes. A trip starts when the vehicle moves or the ignition goes on, and ends when the ignition goes off; with trackers that do not report the ignition, it ends after five minutes standing still. Nobody has to start or stop a trip.
Can we see who drove each trip?
Each trip shows the primary driver assigned to the vehicle when the trip started. Assignments come from the driver assignments calendar, which is part of the Professional and Business packages.
Can we export the route history?
Not as a map or a list of positions. Trip history and distance per vehicle can be exported to PDF, Excel or CSV, and sent to colleagues on a schedule in the Professional and Business packages.
What happens to the history during private use?
Nothing is recorded while a privacy pause is open, so the replay has no positions for that time. People with the privacy permission see the period marked as not recorded, with the distance measured during it.
