Tachograph
Live tachograph data: who is driving and how much time is left
Fleet Hero, the fleet management app of Office Hero, reads the digital tachograph through the GPS tracker in the cab. Fleet managers, and anyone else you give access, see the driver and co-driver cards, the current activity and the driving time left.
Needs a tracker wired to the tachograph, such as the Teltonika FMC650. Part of the Business package.
01How it works
The tachograph's own figures, for every truck with a wired tracker
Fleet Hero reads them live through a tracker wired to the tachograph and shows how old they are.
Live map
Who is driving now
Select a truck on the live map to see the cards in its tachograph: the driver in slot 1 and the co-driver in slot 2, each with the current activity and its duration.
- Driving, other work, available or rest
- A “not live” label when the tachograph has stopped reporting
- Read over TachoCAN, K-Line, ALL-CAN300 or FMS
Driver profile
Driving time left: before the break, today and this week
Each driver's profile shows the figures of their card, whichever truck it is in. Driving time is set against the reference figures of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, with the time left as the tachograph counts it.
- Driving today, since the last break, this week and over two weeks
- 10-hour driving days and reduced daily rests still available
- When the last daily and weekly rest ended
- The country that issued the card
Drivers
Every card linked to the right driver
Sync drivers lists every tachograph card your trackers have reported, so you can create or link the driver in one step. The card's figures then appear on the right profile.
- Cards seen on the road but not yet linked to anyone
- The name the tachograph reports for each card, where it sends one
- The vehicles each card was seen in, and when
GPS estimates
Driving estimates from ignition and speed
For every vehicle, with or without a tachograph link, Fleet Hero also estimates driving, work and rest from the ignition and the speed. The vehicle's tachograph history marks these periods as GPS-only, and the two driving-hours alerts are based on them.
- Driving means ignition on and faster than 5 km/h
- Daily, weekly and two-week driving counters
- “Driving hours exceeded” and “Missing break” alerts, with your own limits
What Fleet Hero does not do with tachographs
Fleet Hero does not download driver-card or vehicle-unit files and does not analyse them for infringements, so keep using a download tool and an archive for the legal record. Live figures need a tracker wired to the tachograph, and co-driver figures appear only when the tracker sends them.
03Also included
Around the tachograph
Trucks read over FMS
Over the FMS interface, Fleet Hero shows the card in each slot and the current activity.
FMS sends no driving times, so the time-left figures stay empty.
The tachograph's own warnings
Fleet Hero shows the tachograph's warnings, such as 15 minutes before 4.5 hours of driving or a driver card download that is due.
Needs a tracker that reads the tachograph.
Next calibration date
When the truck's tachograph is due for calibration, as the tachograph reports it.
Needs a tracker that reads the tachograph.
Where a card was last seen
Each driver's profile says when their card was last seen in a vehicle, and in which one.
Needs a tracker that reads the tachograph.
Working-time findings from HR Hero
Breaches found in drivers' HR Hero timesheets appear in the fleet violations list, to acknowledge or resolve.
It uses the rule packs for North Macedonia, Albania, Germany and the UK, and does not check driving and rest.
Vans in scope of the 2026 rule
Mark the vans of 2.5–3.5 tonnes that work abroad, and keep them in one list.
You mark the vans yourself; Fleet Hero does not detect international journeys.
04What you need
Four things for live tachograph data
-
Step 1 A digital or smart tachograph
Tell us the make and model in each truck, and we check how a tracker can read it.
-
Step 2 A tracker wired to it
We fit a truck tracker such as the Teltonika FMC650 and wire it to the tachograph, at a price we quote per truck.
-
Step 3 Set-up by Office Hero
Our team sets the tracker to read the tachograph and registers it to your company. Its settings are not changed from your account.
-
Step 4 Cards linked to drivers
Link each card to its driver in Sync drivers, and the figures follow the driver.

What tachograph data does Fleet Hero show?
With a tracker that reads the tachograph over TachoCAN, K-Line or ALL-CAN300, it shows the cards in both slots, the current activity, the driving time so far and the time left, the 10-hour days and reduced rests left, the last daily and weekly rest, the warnings and the calibration date. Over FMS, it shows only the cards and the activity.
Which trackers and tachographs work?
A tracker connected to the tachograph, such as the Teltonika FMC650. Send us your truck and tachograph models, and we tell you what each will show.
Can Fleet Hero download or analyse tachograph files?
No. EU rules require vehicle-unit data to be downloaded at least every 90 days and driver-card data at least every 28 days, so keep using a download tool and an archive for that and for infringement checks.
Can we use these figures to prove compliance?
No. Fleet Hero shows the tachograph's own figures beside the reference figures of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, and says on screen that they are not a legal compliance assessment. The legal record stays in the tachograph, on the cards and in your downloaded files.
Does it work for vans with the new smart tachograph?
That depends on whether a tracker can be wired to the van's tachograph, so tell us the models first. Our van guide explains who needs a tachograph from 1 July 2026.
Which package includes live tachograph data?
The Business package, at €18.80 per vehicle per month, with the M2M SIM and mobile data included. We quote the truck tracker, wired to the tachograph, and its installation for each vehicle.
