Fuel monitoring

Fleet fuel monitoring from the readings your vehicles send

Fleet Hero draws each vehicle's tank level over time, finds refuels in the data for a person to confirm, and shows how much fuel a vehicle used and how sure that figure is. Fill-ups logged by hand sit in the same fuel history.

Part of the Professional and Business packages. Needs a tracker that reports fuel.

What fuel monitoring needs

The tank chart and refuel detection need a tracker that reports the tank level. Fuel used can also come from the engine's fuel counter or the fuel rate. These readings come from the CAN bus or the OBD port, and not every vehicle sends them, so ask us about your models before you buy trackers. Fill-ups are logged in Fleet Hero; they are not imported from card providers or read from receipts.

02How it works

From tank readings to fuel used

Each figure says where it comes from, so a measured number is never mistaken for an estimate.

Fuel level

See the tank level, not only the fill-ups

For vehicles whose tracker reports the tank level, the fuel-level chart shows the tank over 1, 7, 14 or 30 days. Each point is smoothed from the readings around it, so fuel moving in the tank does not show as spikes, and the level is held flat while the vehicle is parked. Logged and detected refuels are marked on the line.

  • Litres or percent, converted with the tank size on the vehicle
  • Stretches where the vehicle ran but sent no level are drawn as estimates
  • A table view and keyboard reading for screen-reader users
Measured, held and estimated stretches look different.

Refuel detection

Refuels found in the data, confirmed by a person

Scan one vehicle or the whole fleet over up to 31 days for rises in the tank while the vehicle stood still. Set the threshold in litres or percent, then confirm each detection into the fuel history or dismiss it. Vehicles that could not be read are listed with the reason, such as no fuel-level signal.

  • Several rising readings in a row count as one refuel
  • Nothing is added to the fuel history until someone confirms it
Every detection is reviewed before it counts.

Fuel history

Every fill-up and what it cost

Log a fill-up with date, litres, price per litre, total, currency, odometer, fuel type and station, or confirm one from refuel detection. Counters show total spend, volume, average price per litre and average consumption in litres per 100 km, compared with the previous period.

  • Add a fill-up from the fuel history or from the vehicle's Fuel tab
  • Petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, electric and hybrid
Spend and consumption, compared with the previous period.

Fuel used

Fuel used per vehicle, with its source named

On the route history screen, Fleet Hero shows the litres and litres per 100 km for the period you replay, up to 7 days, with the fuel signal it used and a label such as measured or estimated. The vehicle summary report adds fuel used, refuel cost, engine hours and idle time per vehicle for any period.

  • Sources: the engine's fuel counter, the fuel rate or the tank level
  • How much of the period the fuel signal covered
  • Private kilometres and offline movement listed apart in the summary

Fleet reports

Each figure says whether it was measured or estimated.

03Step by step

How to start

  1. Step 1 Fit a tracker that reads fuel

We sell Teltonika trackers and install them; tell us your vehicle models first.

  2. Step 2 Enter the tank size

With the tank capacity on each vehicle, litres and percent can be converted.

  3. Step 3 Run a refuel scan

Choose a period and a threshold, and review what Fleet Hero found.

  4. Step 4 Set fuel alerts

Warn colleagues about a low tank or a fill-up larger than the tank.

05Questions

Questions about fuel monitoring

Not answered here? Write to [email protected]. A person from our team in Skopje replies, Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 CET.

What do we need for fuel monitoring?

For the tank chart and refuel detection, a tracker that reports the tank level. For fuel used, the tank level, the engine's fuel counter or the fuel rate. Enter each vehicle's tank size so that litres and percent can be converted.

Which vehicles report a fuel level?

It depends on the make, the model and how the tracker is connected. Trucks with an FMS interface can report the tank level and the fuel used; for cars and vans, send us a list of your models and we will check.

Can Fleet Hero detect fuel theft?

Fleet Hero does not detect drains or theft automatically. It flags recorded fill-ups that are larger than the tank, and the fuel-level chart lets you compare detected refuels with the fill-ups you recorded.

How accurate are the fuel figures?

As accurate as the signal behind them, and Fleet Hero names the signal it used. Figures carry a label such as measured or estimated, and the reports show how much of the period the signal covered.

Can we follow fuel costs without a fuel signal?

Yes, from the fill-ups you log: spend, volume, price per litre, consumption per 100 km and the fuel reports built from them. The tank chart and refuel detection need the tank level.

Can we import purchases from our card provider?

No. Fill-ups are logged in Fleet Hero, by hand or by confirming a detected refuel.

Which package includes fuel monitoring?

Fuel monitoring is part of the Professional package, at €14.80 per vehicle per month, and of Business. Both include the SIM and mobile data.
